In over 1000+ games played over 15 NHL seasons, Ryan was a Captain, All-Star, Stanley Cup Champion, NHLPA Vice-President and NHL Man of the Year. His post-playing career has included radio and television broadcasting, founding three companies, acting and advising for television and movies, and worldwide speaking and training in leadership development. Ryan has a Master of Arts Degree in Leadership/Business and is the author of five books.

Prior to his inaugural season as President of the Abbotsford Heat, Ryan was Assistant Coach of the Vancouver Canucks and Head Coach of the Canadian National Women's Hockey Team. Ryan resides in the Fraser Valley with his wife and 4 of their 5 children and revels in frequent visits with his new grandson.

 

Hometown: Currently New Westminster but I will always be a Mission BC girl

Best thing about your job?
Toughie, could be the prison grey colour of my basement office walls, or the pungent smell of used hockey gear in the recirculated air… definitely a toughie… It’s the people, I have and do work with and for amazing people every day, in the administration office, within partner organizations and in the community, an opportunity I would not have had without this job.

First job/your age?
Cashier at a Petro-Canada, probably about 16, back in the day when gas was $0.32/L … way back in the day

Favorite foods?
PIZZA!! Thin crust, tangy sauce, basil, olives, fresh cheese… just like the Italians in France make it

Favorite sports movie?
The Blind Side, I cried like a baby but it was a great story.

Most exciting/unique thing you’ve done or place you’ve visited?
It’s a toss-up Paris was amazing, Turkey was more adventurous than expected and then there’s my first nephew’s 1st birthday with his band of fellow minions was most definitely exciting and unique 
