Abbotsford, BC – HEAT’S BREKER SAYS SPIRITS ARE HIGH AS FUNDRAISING GAME HALFWAY TO RECORD

Five days into a Guinness World Record attempt for the longest hockey game ever, 40 Women in Vancouver had multiple reasons to celebrate on Tuesday.

First off, the “Longest Game 4 CF” has now raised over $100,000 that will go to Cystic Fibrosis Canada - a benchmark passed Tuesday afternoon that was met by cheers by all in attendance at the Canlan Ice Sports Burnaby 8-Rinks.

Secondly, Tuesday brought the half-way mark of the goal to play hockey for 243 hours consecutively, an arduous journey that began Friday August 27th at 8:00 AM.

“The things I thought would be an issue are not” said Terri Breker, goalie for Team White “it’s the little things like the abrasions you get from wearing your equipment and lace bite from your skates. It’s mentally draining being out there so much. You come off the ice, you got back on. You don’t get proper sleeps because you’ve got to get right back up and get out there again.”

Breker - who happens to be the Abbotsford Heat Director of Marketing when she’s not setting Guinness World Records – and the other 39 women competing are all living in RVs on site at the rink.

“You’ve got no concept of time, it’s like Vegas” Terri added with a chuckle.

The competitors all share the common goal of working towards a cure for CF. The motto at the rink is that with fundraising efforts like these, CF will one-day stand for ‘cure found’.
