HEAT FALL 3-2 TO WOLVES TO SPLIT WEEKEND SET

Chicago, IL – The Abbotsford Heat were defeated 3-2 by the Chicago Wolves (AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks) on Sunday afternoon at Allstate Arena.

Roman Horak and Paul Byron scored to put the Heat up by two goals early. Chicago responded by scoring twice on the power play and once four-on-four to split the two games played in less than 24 hours.

The Heat opened the scoring with a short-handed goal from Roman Horak on a partial breakaway. Horak’s team-leading 14th of the season came unassisted 2:06 into the game.

At 11:02 of the first period, Paul Byron gave the Heat a 2-0 lead on a two-man advantage with his 5th goal of the season. Byron’s goal, assisted by Krys Kolanos and Ben Walter, was scored on a two-man advantage, and came just one day after he scored the game winning goal against Chicago.

The Wolves drew within one goal of the Heat when Andrew Ebbett scored on the power play late in the first period. Chicago tied the game 2-2 with a four-on-four goal from Jordan Schroeder at 10:35 of the second period.

The Wolves took the lead 57 seconds into the third period when Captain Darren Haydar scored his fourth goal of the season on the power play. Haydar’s goal proved to be the game winner and he was named the game’s first star.

Barry Brust made 33 saves on 36 shots. Joe Cannata won his first AHL start of the season, stopping 14 of 16 shots.

The Heat finished the night scoring one goal on six power play opportunities and killing off five of seven Wolves’ man advantages. The Heat penalty kill also scored one short-handed goal for the fourth time this season.

The Heat will close 2012 tomorrow against the Peoria Rivermen (AHL Affiliate of the St. Louis Blues) with a 4:05 PM PST puck-drop at the Carver Center.
