HEAT DEFEAT MONSTERS 5-3 IN COMEBACK WIN

Cleveland, OH – The Abbotsford Heat opened their first road trip of the season with a 5-3 win over the Lake Erie Monsters on Friday night. The Heat trailed 2-0 less than nine minutes into the game, but won the contest with a strong final 40 minutes to earn their fourth win in five games.

Brett Olson and Roman Horak led the Heat offensively, with Danny Taylor making 30 saves to help the Heat to their first road win of the 2012-13 campaign.

After falling behind 2-0 early in the first period, Carter Bancks made the score 2-1 on the penalty kill with his second goal of the season. Bancks led a two-on-one rush with Roman Horak into the Monsters’ zone, and recorded the Heat’s first short-handed goal of the season with a high, short-side shot.

Down by a goal after 20 minutes, Roman Horak tied the game at two with his fifth goal of the season at 5:57 of the second period. Horak has scored in all games so far this season, and has already surpassed his 14-game goal total from 2011-12 with the Heat.

Kolanos on goal

The Heat took their first lead of the game at 3:12 of the third period with T.J. Brodie’s first goal of the season. Brodie scored with a backhand deke on a rush. Brett Olson drew his second assist of the night on the play.

Lake Erie would tie the game at 4:58 of the third, but the Heat quickly responded with Roman Horak recording his second of the night, and AHL-leading sixth of the season. Ben Street and Krys Kolanos drew assists on the goal.

Danny Taylor started his fourth game of the season for the Heat and earned his third win with 30 saves on 33 shots, including 17 in the first period.

The Heat did not score on four power-play opportunities, but killed off all six Lake Erie power plays.

The Heat and Monsters play again tomorrow night at 4:30 PM EDT, before closing out their three-game road trip with an afternoon game against the Hamilton Bulldogs on Sunday at 2:00 PM PDT.

The Heat return to the AESC next week to host the Toronto Marlies on November 1st and 2nd. Friday’s game is a Loonie Toonie Dog 'N Brew night, featuring $1 hotdogs and $2 beer. For tickets visit AbbotsfordHeat.com or call 1 877 452-HEAT (4328).
