HEAT HOST ANNUAL TEDDY BEAR TOSS FRIDAY DECEMBER 6TH

Abbotsford, BC – The Abbotsford Heat, in partnership with Sunrise Toyota, are pleased to announce the third annual Teddy Bear Toss, benefiting the Abbotsford Christmas Bureau. The Teddy Bear Toss will take place on Friday, December 6th as the Heat take on the San Antonio Rampage (AHL affiliate of the Florida Panthers) at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre (AESC).

The Heat encourage fans to support the event by purchasing a ticket and bringing a new stuffed toy to the AESC to toss onto the ice after the Heat’s first goal of the night against the visiting San Antonio Rampage. The teddy bears will be collected by Sunrise Toyota pickups and donated to Abbotsford families in need.

Last year, the Abbotsford Christmas Bureau helped over 7,000 people per month, including more than 3,500 children. The Food Bank continues to need donations of non-perishable food items year round, and feels a particular need for gifts for children and teens at Christmas. Sunrise Toyota General Manager, Mark Smith, said: “It is our staff’s belief that by involving ourselves within our community in charitable events such as the Teddy Bear Toss, we not only create an opportunity to provide a young child with a new stuffed toy for Christmas, we also nurture our staff’s belief that if we all give a little, it can make a big difference. As part of our commitment, all of our employees will be attending this game, bringing new plush toys to donate, and helping load all of the donated toys into 3 of our all-new full-sized 2014 Toyota Tundra trucks. We will also be donating another 50 seats to this game to one of our other community partners, as part of this event’s success. And, in the event someone wants to contribute but are unable to attend, we’ll also have a truck on display on our showroom for any toy donations.”

Heat President Ryan Walter said: “The Heat are committed to being a pillar of the Abbotsford community, and our team truly enjoys giving back. The Teddy Bear Toss is part of our commitment to bettering our communities in Abbotsford and across the Fraser Valley, so the opportunity to support the Abbotsford Christmas Bureau with the help of Sunrise Toyota is something we are tremendously excited about.”

The Heat now embark on a seven game road trip before returning home to face off against Utica Comets (AHL affiliate to Vancouver Canucks) on Friday, November 29th and Saturday, November 30th. Friday, November 29th will feature the third Legends of Hockey night of the season, with Canucks legend Kirk McLean appearing for autographs prior to the game on the AESC concourse at 6:00pm.
